Are you keeping your website secure?

Now that you have your website up and running you need to ensure that you have the appropriate website security installed.  When your website traffic grows so do the demands on the performance of your site and this is where risks can occur and something could go wrong.

So how do you keep your site safe?

  • Keep Your Software Up To Date

This is something that not every website owner performs. Periodically all plugins, themes, WordPress and PHP needs to be updated.

  • Have Automatic Backups

Keeping regular backups of your site is important as mistakes can happen. Someone could accidentally delete content or removed a form in which case having a backup of your site will safeguard you from having to wait for your hosting provider to send you the latest copy of your website. Also, there are chances of getting hacked, updates going wrong (always back up your site before performing any updates) and computers crashing. Apart from saving backups to your hard drive also store a copy in the cloud.

  • Only Install Trusted WordPress Plugins

There are thousands of free WordPress plugins to choose from but which one should you install?

When choosing a plugin look at the ratings by users and only select those that have a rating of 5 stars, anything below could potentially be harmful to your site. Check out the review section, if multiple reviewers mention the same issue it’s probably not recommended to install that particular plugin.

Active installations are another thing to look at, the more active installations, the more it is trusted by the community. Updates and compatibility are also important if a plugin isn’t regularly updated by the developer chances are it is not safe and look for when it was last updated.
